Construction Industry Activity In Yorkshire Remains High

The strong demand for skilled trades, site managers and labourers in Yorkshire looks set to continue following confirmation of a number of major new developments in the region.

Experienced construction workers in the area have already benefitted from increased job opportunities due to the sector’s recovery over the past year.

 It now appears that the demand for site and managerial staff will remain high for the foreseeable future, with a selection of major projects being planned.

Developments confirmed or started in recent weeks include:

• 500 new home development in Wakefield, including a £4.6 million bypass
• 634 affordable homes at sites across Hull
• 325 new homes close to Wetherby
• £55 million flood defence scheme in Sheffield
• 159 new home development in Pontefract
• The regeneration of Bond Court in Leeds
• An 84,000 sq ft office scheme in Hull
• 149 new homes as part of a mixed use development in Sowerby Bridge
• £500,000 refurbishment of a 4,800 sq ft office complex in Hull
• University of Sheffield’s £43 million Factory 2050 project
• Refurbishment of a hangar and offices at Robin Hood Airport
• A new 80,000 sq ft industrial unit on the outskirts of Leeds
• Road infrastructure work at Capitol Park in Goole

A number of planning applications for large-scale developments have also been made, including a 500,000 sq ft industrial park near Cleckheaton, an affordable housing development in Huddersfield, a £65 million mixed use residential and leisure scheme in Sheffield, the £2.4 million conversion of a former college building in Leeds into luxury apartments and a 30-house development in Lindley.
