Housebuilding Activity Continues To Grow

Published on 14th July 2014

The latest NHBC report contained more good news for construction jobs when it revealed further growth in activity levels in the housebuilding sector.

Figures compiled by the standard-setting body for new domestic properties showed that a total of 37,975 new homes were registered across the UK in the three months from March to May 2014.

That represented an increase of 4% on the same period last year and continued the trend for growth seen over the last 18 months.

Mike Quinton, chief executive of the NHBC, commented: "Overall we are seeing steady growth on last year's exceptional figures and we obviously hope that this will continue throughout the remainder of the year as the sector continues its impressive recovery."

A recent report by the Home Builders Federation suggested that activity levels and job opportunities in the sector would continue to increase in the coming months.

Its Housing Pipeline study showed that during the first three months of 2014, outline planning permission was granted for 43,926 homes in England and Wales.

The total for the 12 months to the end of March was 177,731, the highest level since 2008 and a strong indication that the level of housebuilding activity will remain high over the next two years.
