Construction jobs created ahead of busy summer

Published on 19th April 2018

Construction recruitment activity increased in March, as contractors looked to fill jobs ahead of what they expect to be a busy summer.

While the unseasonably bad weather conditions in March resulted in a slowdown in output across the industry, the latest IHS Markit / CIPS UK Construction PMI found employers in confident mood.

Despite last month’s fall in business activity, employment growth accelerated to its highest point in three months, sparked by companies preparing for upcoming new project starts and long-term expansion plans.

Many companies also reported that they expect job creation to continue to increase over the next quarter, fueled by an anticipated rebound in construction activity in the coming months.

Speaking about the increased levels of employment, Associate Director at IHS Markit, Tim Moore says:

“A solid rise in employment numbers and the rebound in business expectations to a nine-month high provide an indication that construction activity will strengthen over the near-term.”

With optimism at its highest since last year, and the number of job vacancies continuing to grow, if you’re looking for a new job in any area of construction, there’s no better time to apply.
