IT QA Engineer

Description

IT Quality Assurance (QA) Engineers track the software development process from start to finish. You will be responsible for overseeing production, testing each element to ensure it meets company standards before moving to the next phase of development.

Some of the common duties of a QA Engineer are:

  • Providing QA focussed input into the design and development process
  • Manual testing of features, system testing of software releases and replication and triage or 3rd Line Support Queries
  • Organising and maintaining testing environments in conjunction with IT and Development
  • Searching for and reporting vulnerabilities in current systems
  • Contributing to the organisation’s QA processes and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Prioritising bug fixes with Development and IT teams

Typical Rate

As an IT QA Engineer, you will typically earn between £25,000 and £30,000 per year. Or for more senior positions, you may expect to receive a salary of up to £45,000.

Required Skills and Experience

To become an IT QA Engineer, most employers will require you to have the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience of software development and testing
  • Ability to confidently contribute to a full range of activities involved in managing and maintaining a successful software system
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency in verbal and written technical communication
  • Ability to effectively solve problems and implement practical improvements
  • A good understanding of software product life cycles
  • Willingness and ability to dig deeper into an issue to find cause and not just affect
