PCB Test Engineer

Description

As a PCB Test Engineer, you will be responsible for all aspects of the final inspection and testing of manufactured electromechanical products.

While the specific duties of a Test Engineer may vary depending on the nature of the organisation and the equipment they produce, some common duties of the role may be to: 

  • Determine methods and procedures for inspecting and testing PCB assemblies and finished products
  • Undertake Factory Acceptance tests using standard workshop test equipment such as power supplies, digital multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Carry out fault finding and repairs of finished PCB assemblies to component level
  • Rework printed circuit boards, including SMT devices
  • Work to technical drawings and schematics
  • Check all work meets quality and technical standards
  • Keep accurate and up to date records of all faults found and repairs carried out

 

Typical Rate

Depending on your level of experience and the seniority of the position, the salary for a PCB Test Engineer can vary significantly. For entry level positions, you may expect to earn between £20,000 - £27,000 per annum, whereas more senior engineers may earn up to £45,000.

Required Skills and Experience

To work as a PCB Test Engineer, you will be required to have achieved a HNC / HND or higher qualification in Microelectronics. Previous work experience within production will also be essential.

  • Ability to use electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators and PSUs etc. along with schematics to enable component level fault finding
  • Ability to use hand tools and machinery
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings
