Steel Fixer

Description 

A Steel Fixer will install and tie together the steel bars and mesh used to strengthen concrete during construction.

The main duties of a Steel Fixer are:

    • Setting out the work area, following engineering plans
    • Using hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh
    • Tying rebar (reinforcement bars) together with wire, clips or welds to build up sections
    • Fitting spacers and ‘chairs’ (supports)
    • Fixing the wooden formwork and shuttering used to hold setting concrete in place
    • Fixing steel to concrete bases
    • Installing beams and pre-cast slabs

The average hourly pay rate for a Steel Fixer is between £7.20 and £18.

Required Qualifications

To work as an Steel Fixer you will need to be either fully qualified or time served.

Qualifications include:

    • NVQs in Steel Fixing
    • Apprentice trained
    • Time served
    • City and Guilds qualified in Steelfixing Occupations.

References must be provided. You will also be required to hold a valid CSCS card. Skilled cards are required on most sites, however you may be permitted on site at the Contractor's discretion with a General Operatives green card.

    • Podger Spanners
    • Carrot Drifts
    • Tool Belts
    • Ball Pein Hammers
